Did it ever occur to you that the reason many of those
countries do not spend nearly as much on 'defense' as
'We' do is because we do spend a LOT of money on it?
(And we have treaty obligations to help defend many
of them.)

P.S. Defense spending and spending on Wars is not what
is bankrupting this country. Defense is part of the
United States 'mission statement' - as per the Constitution.
However, welfare in all its guises and with all its
various spending programs is NOT listed as a power or
responsibility of the federal government.
Welfare IS what is bankrupting the country.
