You have a point on reaction times, no doubt. And in the case of the NJ Tpke (I-95), more cars on the road is an important issue. But I do advocate higher speeds for night time when traffic is light and where there are no deer and the roads are relatively top notch, like an interstate!

Out in West Texas- the speed limit is now 75 on the Interstate.

Folks, the cars may 'feel safe' at that speed and higher - but the fact is PEOPLE ARE 'not safe' at that speed. Reaction times remain a constant at any speed, and 75 mph is just too freaking fast. Add to that distractions (many more with devices and dash boards of today - coupled with more cars on the roads, each a 'distraction') and these high speeds are indeed a menace.

I believe that there even 80 mph speed limits in Wyoming (possibly other states.)

Insanity.
