Hi De!
Just researching looking at affordable used vehicles that were made well to begin with. And they don't cost a fortune when buying a used one...
Mazda, Nissan, Hyundai
Here is a Hyundai Tuscon with AWD and low miles. It is a 2013.

Another nice deal on a Tuscon with AWD:

A Mazda CX-5 with AWD

or a ROGUE from Nissan with AWD would be a good car for New Hampshire roads in winter also.
IF you don;t require the AWD (all wheel drive) then just get the front wheel drive drivetrain and save more money...
These three are very nice alternatives to the way overpriced Honda CR-V and RAV 4 from T-ota.
A freind f mine has owned both the Mazda CX5 and the Rogue from Nissan. BOTH are good vehicles and drive quietly inside. The Tuscon is very nice also and might be a little more affordable in used condition.
IF you like American cars, look at the Chevy Equinox. A newer model year..... They have come a long way. BUT as I said, bought my last domestic big 3 vehicle after getting screwed on every single one I had purchased before..
