Kind of reminds me of the Wilson House in Wichita Falls, Texas. Wilson was an oil man who, knowing that Wichita Falls is subject to more than its fair share of big ass tornadoes, built his mansion with "bones" of steel I-beams sunk deep into the ground. That thing is a fortress. The Finger of God (F5) hit Wichita Falls in 1979 and gave us an endless number of locations to hold "slab parties," afterwards, but its path did not take it over the Wilson House. If any structure could possibly hold up under an F5, it would be the one.

Linda, most of the storm shelters are a
long way from the Golf of Mexico. They
are used in the face of a tornado. BTW,
a friend of mine said he has a relative
down on the Gulf who had few problems.
Their house is on a high spot with
drainage into the Gulf. It was built to
withstand high winds.
