Good post to sissyboy on the other board, Sire. Don't need to read their posts to understand your 'eloquence'. *s*

The Mayor made the right call. Not often I disagree with the Governor - but when it comes to Houston, the mayor knows MUCH better than he what an evacuation order would have caused. And he was correct. Flooding in Houston is NOT that big a deal - It's pretty tough to flood almost totally flat land, yeah, it comes up a few feet, more in shallow depressions - BUT IT DRAINS pretty quickly - no restricting 'valleys' - flat land drains quickly- especially with all the bayous there are down there. Kinda like the tide coming in - quick in - quick out over flat land.

Good Article in the Houston Chronicle about the go or no go decision. RITA was the Hurricane that resulted in over 150 people dying on the freeways. This article accurately reviews the hell experience of being on the road during that time.

The what-ifs can be suffocating. And there's been no grand decision handed down by officials, declaring a right thing to do. The governor says evacuate. But Mayor Turner says weather it out.

And here is the decision discussion by gubmint: Again, the Mayor was spot on.

Mayor Sylvester Turner also cautioned against evacuations.

"There are a number of people who are in Hurricane Harvey's direct path, and evacuation orders have been given to them," Turner said. But for the Houston area, "This is a rainmaker for us. There's no need for people to be thinking about putting themselves in greater danger." {BINGO!}

In 2005, many Houstonians fled Hurricane Rita. The immense evacuation led to gasoline shortages, massive traffic jams and gridlocked highways. At least 120 people died, including 23 who were killed in a bus crash near Dallas. {152 died on the road - later talley from a legal firm, non-published source}
