...after much negative publicity da gumint decided not to prosecute the kid who used the bus to rescue others. Da gubmint was not happy about it though.

There were some. Remember a certain young man that commandeered a school bus, from a locked up and abandoned lot; picked up a whole busload of folks, and got them to safety in Houston.

Kid, black if memory serves, deserved a medal. Instead, they tried to prosecute him. Don't know what finally happened.

Remember folks attempting to WALK out of New Orleans-and being forcibly forbidden from leaving the expressway by armed federales. No food, no water, no shelter, no facilities on the expressway - but the federales refused to let them seek shelter, and fend for themselves where resources could be had - either by charity, money, or work.

Yeah - Texas is a whole hell of a lot different from that forsaken cesspit of corruption. Lots of good people - and, when the government gets out of their way, able to accomplish a lot.

Little advertised fact about that last major hurricane that hit Houston. It was bumper, to bumper from Houston to Dallas - and once one was on the freeway - one WAS NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE FREEWAY. Armed government 'troops' prevented it. Over 150 people died ON THE FREEWAYS. It took 36-48 hours to get from Houston to Dallas. If you tried to go an 'alternate route', or seek shelter, you were prevented from doing so by the government.

Yeah - that was more than just a few years ago. Not pretty.

Fortunately, Corpus Christi area is not nearly as populated as the Houston/Galveston region.
