Top News: The United States has expelled two Cuban diplomats after their American counterparts in Havana suffered unexplained hearing loss late last year, according to the U.S. State Department. The U.S. diplomats apparently showed a range of physical symptoms, in some cases so severe they had to return early to the United States.
The U.S. State Department has reportedly concluded that the diplomats had been exposed to some sort of sonic device that had been placed either inside or outside their residences. Whether the device was meant as an attack or had some other purpose was not made clear.
What was made clear was Cuban indignation. “Cuba has never permitted, nor will permit, that Cuban territory be used for any action against accredited diplomatic officials or their families, with no exception,” the Cuban government said, calling the decision to expel their two diplomats “unjustified and baseless.”
