Linda - there are a lot of VERY OLD FAMILIES in West Texas and New Mexico, and South and Central Texas who date back to the days of the Spanish Land Grants - which means PRIOR to 'Texas' even existing.
We West Texaners refer to them as hispanic - Not Mexican. A lot of good heritage in those families.
