re: "...politics are beginning to annoy me."

I know the feeling. However, I have difficulty not responding when others say things that are either wrong or confused. More often than not in my neck of the woods, their statements are political.

I'm currently in a discussion on FB and am being accused of "bullsh*t" because of my position that transgenders SHOULD be allowed in the military so long as their related, non-incidental medical costs (including surgery) are racked up as part of the soldier's DEBT. That doesn't seem to be going over well with the libtards. It's funny, but I'm surprised by their reaction. I thought I was being rather supportive.

The most sensible argument they're giving me is that military health insurance covers families, not just soldiers, and a transgender trying to get conversion surgery may well be a family member not the soldier him/herself. In that case, the expense is covered, right?

That's a good point, but as a military brat myself, I know that it used to be REALLY HARD to get the military to perform certain procedures on family members. Cosmetic surgery? Never. Heck, my CURRENT health insurance won't pay for that. (I'd love to get a bunch of ordinary moles removed.) Why should gender-change surgery be any different? Somehow our society has developed the irrational belief that amputation and plastic surgery are good treatments for severe psychological disorders.

That's not something to which I subscribe. I think such surgery is COSMETIC, not life threatening, and not necessary. As great as it might make me feel to get some plastic surgery done, to have my humped back straightened, to get my face tattoos bleached off, and to have the conjoined twin who impacts my golf swing lopped off, those conditions are not life threatening and shouldn't be the military's problem.

At my core, I believe that it isn't the obligation of taxpayers to fund other people's happiness. And if I'm wrong about this, I WANT MY GOLDEN SWIMMING POOL, DAMMIT.

Now for a somewhat different subject...

On the radio yesterday I heard that those who undergo sex-change surgery usually experience initial improvement in their mental states. But ten, twenty and thirty years down the road, they commit suicide at rates that are TWENTY TIMES the norm. What a great solution.
