Yes, I believe that the vast majority of Texans living outside of Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and the Valley own firearms - multiple firearms. Therefore, since a large amount of the state's population is crammed into these areas, I doubt that the majority of all Texans own firearms.

Here is an article based on dated (2007) information from USACarry.com - http://www.thoughtco.com/gun-owners-percentage-of-state-populations-3325153 - and it suggests that 35.9% of all Texans are gun owners. #1 on its list is Wyoming at 59.7% and #50 is Hawaii at 6.7%.

I think the author is a bit naive. If he really thinks an overwhelming majority of Texans own guns, he's probably wrong. At best, I'd bet that the majority of RURAL Texans own guns. And maybe that a majority of Texas FAMILIES own guns. If he really believes that Big Government liberals are in low supply throughout the state, he's apparently never been to Southern Texas. As you can see from the map below, significant areas of the Southern state voted for Hillary in 2016.

The number of people who actually own investment gold in the United States is miniscule when compared to those who own stocks — no matter what the polls say. 34% of Americans say gold is the best long-term investment, but how many of that 34% actually own it in the form of coins and bullion? No one has that figure, but my guess would be less than 1% (of the total population) and I doubt I am all that far from the truth. Compare that with the number of people who own stocks — 10% of the population reportedly owns 85% of the stocks.
