You do not HAVE to wake up in pain. The surgeon can insert a PAIN BALL with an automatic drip on it so you have pain killer right where it needs to be when you actually do awaken in recovery.

Yes, shoulder surgery is painful. Had it done twice on my right shoulder a year apart and it was excruciating but I survived. The pain ball was great. I also KNEW it the moment it ran out of painkiller..

In your case, you are having an artificial socket which is even more invasive and so yes, you will need some heavy duty pain meds. I suspect you will get morphine.

It works. Trust me.

As usual, remind me when we get closer. I will be praying for you a lot.

...found out the other day that they is gonna have to replace my shoulder socket thingy. Seems the right one is worn out. The left one is fine. (No Comments From The Peanut Gallery Ya Hear Me!!!) There is enough video on you tube about that kind of surgery without me having to look at it and scare myself into heart failure. They is gonna do a reversal after which I will be fine in 30-40 years maybe.

...once ya get to 72 surgery is scary. It's not so much concern about not waking up as it is concern about waking up in a lot of pain. I have done that a couple of times. I expect to not wake up some day. I won't be surprised.

...therapy is another thing that is scary.

In any case I am going sometime in November to have it fixed.
