If you build it, they won’t come.
Alternatively, if you threaten to build it, they won’t come either.
While many expected a surge in illegal border crossings following the election of Donald Trump, as illegals would be sure to reside on the northern side of the wall prior to its construction – they were wrong. Illegal border crossings dropped in the months following Trump’s surprise victory in November, and have continued to plummet ever since.

According to the Washington Examiner, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency on Friday reported a huge drop in arrests along the Southwest border, a likely result of President Trump’s aggressive effort to stop illegals from entering the nation and deport those with criminal records.
The agency said that apprehensions dropped 53 percent from a year ago. The number also includes those deemed inadmissible.

What’s more, said the agency, since the fiscal year began in October, arrests are down two-thirds, from 66,712, a six-year record high, to 21,659 a six-year record low.
Still, said the agency, June saw a slight increases of 1,697 arrests over May.
Since Trump became president, the number of apprehensions at ports of entry for every month has been at a record six-year low. “These numbers represent a 53 percent decrease as compared to June of 2016, and year-to-date totals for FY 2017 are 19 percent lower than the same period in FY 2016,” said Customs.
The agency is seeing the usual spring and summer uptick. It said, “In June, a total of 16,089 individuals were apprehended between ports of entry on our Southwest Border, compared with 14,533 in May and 11,126 in April. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2016, USBP apprehended 408,870 individuals along our Southwest Border, compared to 331,333 in FY15, and 479,371 in FY14.”
What could be driving the decline, considering that a wall hasn’t been built yet? For one, Trump has ramped up both the size of border patrol (to deter illegals from attempting to cross the border), and ICE (to counteract those already here illegally, and create a new risk for those who would consider it).
So far, so good. Imagine what the figures will look like once there’s an actual completed border wall at the border.

OK - now the point that EVERYONE has missed ...
Yes - The U.S. has cracked down on illegal immigration.
So much so that ATTEMPTED CROSSINGS have dropped dramatically - so much so that ARRESTS ARE DOWN.
Now - Is this REALLY DUE to more stringent patrols at the border ?
NOPE.
THE REAL REASON CROSSINGS ARE DOWN:
MONEY.
Hyup, that's right, MONEY. It is not that so many are being caught. So what - ship 'em out, and they'll just pop right back in. Right ?
WRONG. The attempted entries are dropping because ...
IT COSTS THEM ROUGHLY $10,000 per person to pay a coyote - and if they GET CAUGHT that is money out of their pockets that they can NOT afford. And THAT folks is the REAL REASON why so many aren't trying to enter and re-enter - the cost of failure for them is actually too high.
So - yeah - the increased enforcement is the cause - but the actual effect is FAR greater than the increased enforcement, by itself, would yield.
'nuff said.
Hit 'em where it counts- right in the pocketbook.
