That's a reasonable policy.

I'm usually 2.5-3, if trying to get to a meeting. In NY you'd never make it to the city with longer, a million cars would jump in ahead of you. Must pay close attention and leave more if possible.

No, Linda - I do not impede traffic in the left lane.

Am a 'safety conscious driver'. Tail-gators infest no matter which lane one drives in.

I also keep FOUR seconds of distance from car in front- two seconds is insufficient reaction and braking time, given the number of traffic weavers that cut in and out constantly. One weave can cut time to less than one second - and with two second distance - a problem develops - and all of a sudden one does not have sufficient distance to avoid a collision.

Four seconds infuriates some of the hot-heads - but frankly, I don't give a damn. My life and property are worth far more than their idiocy.

Most folk respect the distance, and in fact, start widening their own following distance.
