I have heard the double config will cover most problems. The last one I bought has a guarantee for device replacement up to $75,000. They have $100K, too. Then I have a second behind it.

I did get zapped and it was a loud zap. I jumped. I thought the PC was dead, but it started back up. Also, we have underground lines here within the community, not that doesn't stop everything.

I hear you on the UPS. I had one in the city but the battery went. It's an APC I got on sale, I forget the VS rating. Big, heavy thing, around a foot long and 6" wide, give or take. I should pull it out and see if anything can be done with it. If the battery's too expensive, end of experiment.

Linda - power strips will do very little in protecting from huge and sudden power surges. What does work are UPS systems - the bigger, the better (1200VA recommended for most computers/laptops). These WILL protect against almost direct lightning strikes - have witnessed that myself more than once.

Brand - APC have always built excellent UPS systems - and are what I predominantly buy. BACKUPS are a good line in their offerings.
