Zim,

Yeah, you're right on interceptors, I was visualizing an interdiction in the scenario where they're tailing (Russians) or escorting (Chinese) our non-combat aircraft, as has occurred in recent times.

Top Gun... I wonder how many rounds they could fire during the Vietnam war.

Dear Linda,
Just what is the job of an interceptor?
I'm pretty sure it is to fly out and meet, say, Soviet
bombers moving into American airspace. For that task
missiles and stealth work very well.

Funny you should say that. It seems the Air Force top
brass made that mistake over Vietnam. The Navy had
to create 'Top Gun' to retrain our guys in dogfighting
techniques.
