zim,

Speaking of the f-35 going through its paces, it's hard to believe they can't even use the machine gun because the software's not ready. Maybe that's just because its a low priority, but wow.

Dear Linda,
Much of the time in a dogfight is spent maneuvering.
Trying to get the plane in the right position to
kill the enemy. The pilot knows he only has some
fourteen seconds of cannon fire, he will wait till he
has the enemy 'in his sights' and then tear him up with
a short burst.

The big thing with the F-22 and the F-35 is stealth.
From fifty to a hundred miles away they are practically
invisible. They don't show up on the enemy's radar, and
at fifty miles they can't see them either. Till our
guys cut loose with the missiles. Then the enemy
knows they are out there and have some idea of where they
were. (When they launched the missiles.)

After that the enemy will be trying to close with our guys so
they can see our birds and engage visually. Dogfighting.

I don't know if the F35 is a good fighter jet or not.
I'd like to wait till a bunch of them have been through
Top gun fighter air combat school a few times and then see what they got.

Zim.
