De,
first, thank you for sharing such an insight and a wonderful outcome for your son.

He is graduating much like my daughter did. BTW, did he finish at the top of his class? I do not recall you mentioning that.

Can't wait to hear about the production once it is open to the public!

Let me tell you something in all sincerity and only as good information for your son's future education, thinking Graduate school now....

I do not know what he plans to MINOR in, but, that being said, be aware that he has a mind that works very logically. That is the core of mathematics and numbers. Mathematicians, CPA's, Engineers of various stripes, physicists all have strong abilities in logical progression and thinking.

Another profession that is a big crossover between people like this is becoming a doctor, OR, a LAWYER.

Good lawyers with good reasoning skills make unbelievably good income.
My daughter had exceptional mathematics and science and history skills. Like Joey.

She graduated with a similar GPA and was accepted into a Private top 50 University into a class of 500. Over 15,000 applied to get into that class. And of those, you had to be number 1 or 2 in your graduating class with a very high SAT score...

Joey could well become in graduate school an accomplished attorney, as my daughter did. She doesn't want for anything.

She makes over 4 times what I do and I have advanced engineering degreeSSSSS.

She was accepted into Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Michigan, Penn, and other Law schools after just nailing the LCAT exams.

She chose WIlliam and Mary college of Law. Graduated 2nd in class and won the national competition of law students all over the U.S. which included $15,000 prize and she is in the Law Review for what she did.

Joey has the distinct potential to work in the field of law as well as science or math.

He will be exposed to things and will eventually begin to think of what he may like to spend his life doing earning an income.

Just wanted to throw this out to you as I have been down this road before with my daughter, and myself. I was a Medical student who transferred into Engineering.

He has a bright future and a good role model. I wish only the best for your son and for his family.

Just another option for him to consider AFTER he completes his undergrad work.....

Congrats dad on a job well done!

best,

micro...

I did something I probably shouldn't have at that point. I told him that he might not have considered it, but that being the lead in a musical of this size might look really good to Graduate Schools. After all, it's something done AFTER high school. It’s stage experience. It’s an indication of the confidence others have in him.

I don't know if that had an effect and maybe I shouldn’t have said it, but he came downstairs fifteen minutes later and said "I think I'm going to do it."

"THINK?" I asked tongue-in-cheek. "YOU NEED TO DECIDE!!!"

After we laughed, I told him that if he couldn't participate wholeheartedly, then he shouldn't do the show. It wouldn’t be doing them a favor to take a key role and not give it his all. But he said he can and will and that the answer is yes.

So he made a phone call and told the lady that he'd like very much to be in the show . It obviously made her day. She sent us (both Joey and his parents) an e-mail a few minutes later to tell us, in part:

We are soooo excited that I can't even begin to tell you! You are going to push yourself to grow and we believe in you. We are going to have a lot of fun and Erin is going to be so happy too! (I know we were ALL twisting those arms!)

We wrote back and said that we hadn't twisted his arm. The decision had been his.

Despite our e-mail, I *did* twist his arm, at least a little, and I feel bad about it. I want him to be happy and I'm sure that he'll be extremely happy once the work to come is behind him. On the other hand, it's his last summer vacation as a kid, and what kid doesn't want to have a summer that's completely laid back and free of responsibility? Instead, from July 5th until July 28th, he’ll be totally swamped with work. Three weeks is NOT a lot of time to learn a 2.5 hour show! And three weeks after that, he's moving.

Summer may fly this year. But it's assuredly going to be memorable.
