Congrats! Great achievement. Impressive, too, in the clip, that he can sing and play the keyboard, too. What does he want to do?

Toward the end of tonight's banquet, I'll admit to feeling my son had been gypped. He hadn't, after all, been given the top choir scholarship ($475) two other students had. The money was awarded by a panel of parents who reviewed the applications. They put Joey into a lower tier who received $350 apiece. That's wonderful, but it's not about money. I simply don't understand their thinking. The winning students' choir accomplishments do not compare with Joey's. He was President of the top choir, the only student who went to State Choir every time he was eligible, the top ranked Tenor in the district, the first student in seven years to attend Virginia Governor's school for vocalists, the student most called upon to accompany other choirs and graduating seniors. But, it was parents who made the decision, not peers or teachers, so I imagine it boiled down to the application. Maybe having the teacher recommendation portion of the his app written by the school's top math teacher (who is also a professor at George Mason University and whose primary language is French) was a bad idea.

But the most prestigious award of the evening was still to come, and we ultimately got some love. Joey's teacher doesn't break into tears for everyone. Or for ANYONE, actually, in the four years that I've been going to these things. I had to edit the video to remove our last name, but this is what occurred:
