I've been in an interesting Facebook discussion yesterday and this morning with a liberal friend who lives in Oregon.

Why these people don't "get it," I don't know. There might be a clue in his statement about being a contractor - because he worked in cities and therefore needed more money. Uh, whose fault is that? His admission is quite revealing. My friend decided at a young age to pursue a higher salary instead of healthcare, and now that he's getting up there (he's a bit older than me,) it's dawned on him that he's got some health issues that his crappy Obamacare coverage is forcing him to pay for.

The bottom line is that he wants it all - the high salary that comes with being a contractor AND the superior health coverage most employees receive. Liberalism is usually about greed. My friend wants someone else to pay for the medical care he elected not to pursue for himself. That's greed.

Here's the discussion:

Decomposed I hope you're kidding. There are 55 million Americans on Medicare (among a population of 325 million), and the program has a total shortfall right now of $28 TRILLION dollars. Very roughly, that's $100,000 PER TAXPAYER with the program as it is. Put six times as many onto it, and each taxpayer would have to fork over roughly $600,000 just to get the program to stop being underwater. This is *not* a good idea.

Decomposed If it seems impossible for the Medicare debt alone to be $28 trillion when the entire Federal debt is only $20 trillion, it's because the government does not include Social Security, Medicare, and a host of other obligations when it reports the debt. What a clever way to make the debt problem not seem as bad as it really is, eh? America has its head in the sand with regard to its spending, but the reality will manifest itself sooner or later. It always does.

Jacob every other western economy in the world figured it out without keeping 800 plus military bases going and a bloated health care, bloated for profit prison system going, what do all these other western economies know that we dont. Its all greed thats why there is not universal health care in the usa but every other western economy figured it out

Decomposed ONE thing they all know is how to make the United States foot the bill for their defense. Defense is costly and we are the ones paying for it. A second thing they know is that INSURANCE is not meant to be used by everyone. When it is, prices have to rise. I don't know why we haven't grasped the concept. A third thing they all figured out is . . . is . . . oh, there may not be anything else that they've all figured out.

Socialist governments ALWAYS eventually spend themselves into oblivion. Denmark is one of the most socialist of the EU countries. You think it would be a good place to live? Denmark was ranked #1 in the world last year, but liberal criteria was used in the ranking. Cars in Denmark carry a 180% tax! A beginner car that would set you or me back $17,000 carries a $47,000 out-the-door price in Denmark. Denmark has socialized education. But when students graduate, they leave the country to live elsewhere. Its top personal income tax of 60.2% is applied to anyone who earns more than $55,000. That's not too much of a problem, though, since average income is in the low $20s. (Average household income is just below $27,000 per year.) Of course the MINIMUM tax rate is 40%, so the average Dane takes home around $16,000 - with which they can only dream of one day buying an average single family home costing $300,000. Denmark has some of the worst rates of alcoholism, drug abuse and suicide in the world. And liberals think it's AWESOME because everyone rides bikes and can go to the hospital for free. That last is helpful since Denmark also leads the world in the use of antidepressants. At least they don't have to buy the medications they need to get through each day with their idyllic system of government.

Jacob Ive paid $40000 in taxes some years in USA I never got one dollar in health care. Im usually a contractor because cost of living is so high in big cities. The few I got health care, i been to a dentist once in forty years, is when I was destitute than the government would help me. Otherwise they wouldnt do jack shit. I think most people are serfs regardless of the geographic location, if you got in early with real estate your happy, everyone else eat shit is the way the bankers and republican economists explained it to me.

Decomposed Would you be okay with getting healthcare but no longer being paid more than an employee? Because that's what getting healthcare while still being a contractor would mean. Healthcare is extremely expensive for employers, which is why contractors who don't have it earn more than employees.

I have yet to hear from him after that last message. He's not the type to cut and run - but then again, he's liberal so he might.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
