My wood burning stove will still work. The 25 kerosene lamps I bought will finally be useful... if I can find fuel. (I wonder if alcohol would work?) I hope to get a hand pump soon for the well. I'll still have my crops, but they may not do well without insecticide or fertilizer. (I'm going to try to not use insecticide anyway. I'm toying with the idea of having large animals... which will produce manure. Animals might just be a pipe dream, though. They are a lot of work.) Guns and ammo will work . . . not that I have any of *THOSE* evil things.

I do like the idea of buying a shipping container and anchoring it with cables to a buried motor block. It'll be about the biggest shed/Faraday cage I could ever want. I've got the space for it, and the storage will always be handy even if there's no EMP.

If there's significant radiation along with the EMP, there's not too much point in worrying about survival. An EMP alone, though, will mostly kill people in cities, people without stocked food, and people with health problems. I think most others will get through it.

Speaking of cities, why on earth are you in NYC? You've got to know that the city is about the biggest bullseye there is for America's enemies. There are only two places in the U.S. that I think the odds favor ultimately being deathtraps, and you're in one of them. (D.C. is the other.)

I can't say it enough. Stockpile food. Buy guns & ammo. Buy precious metals. Buy rural, farmable land with its own water. Then you MIGHT be in the 10 or 20 or 50 percent who weather whatever storm ultimately befalls us.

Grid and nuclear attack --> EMP attack

They seem to understate the problem. an nuclear or solar EMP attack does much more than take out electricity. It hits anything electronic -- grid, vehicles, computers, phones, the works. Nothing will work. No transportation, no food. That's why they project a 90% casualty rate.

And your Congress-critters and mine haven't done a thing to fix it, so far. Some of them think they're protected. Doubtful. And imagine, every nuclear plant will crash, just like Fukushima. Doomsday.
