We get some doozies once in a while in the Central Valley, Sierras. When we'd have early meetings, I'd drive over Sunday evening, I remember one of those was in the middle of a pretty widespread storm. Coming across the area near Davis, lightning strung out clear across the windshield, almost horizontal... Would have made a great photo, but it was log before digital... It kept it up quite a while... A noisy night in Sacramento...

Up in the Sierras/Yosemite it was a kick, if it only hit the rocks, not so bad, but sometimes a tree was the target, so instead of a blue/white flash, there was an orange glow as that poor tree exploded...

Locally pretty rare, don't want any now, fire danger is way up... 4500+ acres north of Napa and into Lake County is now 45% contained...

A long hot Summer...

That's one thing we miss here is SoCal, no lighting storms. When my son moved to Houston, during the first big thunderstorm his wife, who had been born and raised in LA, stood outside in amazement until my son explained to her that standing outside in the middle of the yard was NOT the best place to be during a lightning storm, but she had never seen anything quite like it before.
