"NEW YORK (AP) -- An early gain on Wall Street evaporated, leaving the stock market little changed at midmorning Thursday.
A slump in telecommunications stocks held back the broader market. AT&T and Verizon each fell 1 percent. Dish Networks slid 2 percent after the company reported a surprise loss on Tuesday.
Miners and other companies that make basic materials rose after news that China's trade rebounded in July, signaling the end of a six-month slowdown for the world's second-largest economy.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down a fraction at 1,690 as of 11 a.m. Telecommunications stocks slumped 1 percent, the most of the 10 industry sectors in the index."
