New stolen baby scandal erupts in former Spanish enclave
In May, Spain's Guardia Civil cracked a child smuggling ring dating bacl to the 1970s and 80s. In the Spanish enclave of Melilla in Morocco, babies had been sold for up to 6,000 euros to wealthy Spanish families who couldn't have children. It's the latest in a series of Franco-era 'stolen babies' scandals that have emerged since 2010. It's thought the practise may have involved as many as 300,000 infants going as far back as 1939 and continuing after the dictator's death.
