Trump is trying to drive the defence. And the more he does so, the less like a legal defence it becomes.
My guess is they are performing a defence because they knw a defendant has to have a lawyer. But they are surely not so naive as to think he has a chance, unless there's a dishonest juror.
We know the case pretty much meets the definition of beyond a reasonable doubt because Cohen got put in jail for exactly the same thing. And there's no escaping the collusion point because Pecker and Hicks made it plain.
