My area had its wettest July ever in 2021, and last year was soggy for most of the summer. Now the forecast is saying lots of rain is headed our way.

This is lousy for tomatoes and peppers... the two main vegetables I've got under my grow lights. I hope the forecast changes.

Rain isn't the problem so much as a lack of sunlight. Tomatoes and peppers eat the light up. In a drought, I can always water. But in rainy stretches, there's not much I can do. I'll have to get some beans planted. They do fine in rainy weather.

On the brighter side (no pun intended), rain is important to newly planted trees. I should have all of my plums in the ground by Tuesday.

We just had the wettest July in southern New Hampshire history. My tomato plants are not taking it well. It's not the water, but the lack of sun… Tomatoes like sunlight. Same for the pepper plants.

The green beans are doing well, though. I guess that means I should water the beans heavily in future years.
