The so-called Conservatives on SCOTUS are clearly planning to use this case with Trump to redefine the scope of the presidency.

Their aim may not be to protect Trump. It appears more likely that they intend to change the shape of presidential powers: possibly to reduce them in favour of the states where it serves a Conservative agenda (eg healthcare); possibly to increase them, again where it serves their political agenda. Trump may derive some benefit from it. But I doubt he'll get a free pass.

Given their slipshod, dishonest and arrogant dismantling of federal abortion rights, in spite of assuring the senate that it is settled law, one might reasonably speculate these clowns will make another bloody great mess. They've clearly taken the Trump case for some reason of their own.

My advice. Look out. This may be a total cluster in the making. Worse even than the abortion changes, imposing Catholic ideas of top-down morality on non-Catholic Americans. Worse than the setting aside of the states' role in protecting the US against coup-promoters. And worse than the disastrous changes to campaign spending limits, which have more-or-less turned the US into an oligarchy.
