jes so ya know,

I have a pair of High powered binoculars that cost well over a hundred dollars. I can assure you they is not anything cheap about them.. I used them to see the family of deer that used to come daily in the once ten acre field behind me.. I would leave some apples out for them on occasion so they had a dessert with their usual staple..

I maybe shoulda not been lazy and tried to take a peek at the comet..

That's a great picture!

I saw Jupiter (which has now set.) And the comet is just to the west of it... but I couldn't see it. I've seen comets before... they often look like a smudge or a cloud. This one is a little better defined. See the photo to the right.

I had my mid-power binoculars. Maybe if I'd used the good ones... but the stars are usually so jumpy when high powered binoculars without a support are used. All I have tonight is my roadside trash bin (similar to the three that OCU sets out... 2x per week, and maybe you guys too.)

The next time I try this, I'm going to lay out a concrete floor for my fire pit and get a small blaze going. It's cold out there!

I think I'm going to get a notepad and start drawing the various constellations I spot. I hate not knowing their names and I bet they're easily identified. My dad, who was a navigator in WWII, would be ashamed that his kid recognizes so few of the stars. I used to love stargazing with him.
