Partly because I use mostly mac on the internet and have all sorts of tracking blockers loaded on my Firefox browser, I haven't checked for trackers in ages. The other part is a mix of lazy and not knowing what to use on a Mac.

Anyway, thanks for the warning. I expect to try one of the following in the next day or so:

Big money in pimping you. I'm sad to hear that Amazon is that abusive. If I find that to be true in my case (I will start looking if I like the package I install) I will "pay" Amazon back by beginning to remove business from them. It is inexcusable, honestly, that they don't allow opt out of trackers?

FWIW, does anyone use Walmart or other services for online purchases? I keep hoping Amazon will eventually get some real competition. I really would like to recognize Bezos for purchasing the Washington Post and using it for propaganda/exploitation. Using Amazon too much is one of my major shame points. I just hate driving around looking store to store that much....

In 2021, I would run CCleaner every two weeks or so in order to spiff up performance. It would generally report hundreds of "Trackers," and CCleaner would remove them.

Last year, the number rapidly climbed, topping 1,000 for the first time, but approaching 10,000 (every two weeks) just a few months later. I wish I could say that was the end of it, but it wasn't. Before long, I was running CCleaner every few days, typically finding between 7,000 and 9,000 trackers.

I ran it yesterday, and again today, finding and removing 5,000 new ones in that last scan, just 24 hours after having removed even more.

I left my computer logged into Facebook while shoveling the driveway today, came back in and found 538 new tracking cookies. I shut down the browser, opened it again, went to Facebook and scrolled through a few messages. Now I had 641 tracking cookies. I did this one more time and now had 708 tracking cookies.

I shut down again and, this time, only logged into Amazon. Now there were 815 new tracking cookies.

What fun these websites are, eh?

Before I cleared them all out, I shut down the browser one more time, started up and went to AtomicBobs. ZERO NEW TRACKING COOKIES. That's a relief. Thank you, Bob!
