‘Shame!’ Enes Kanter Freedom et al. blister billionaire Warriors part-owner Chamath Palihapitiya for saying he doesn’t give a damn about Uyghur genocide [video]

http://twitchy.com/sarahd-313035/2022/01/17/shame-enes-kanter-freedom-et-al-blister-billionaire-warriors-part-owner-chamath-palihapitiya-for-saying-he-doesnt-give-a-damn-about-uyghur-genocide-video/

In a recent interview, billionaire venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya offered up his thoughts on the Uyghur genocide in China.

Spoiler alert: his thoughts are ... sub-optimal.

"Sub-optimal" = vile. Hmmm ... I wonder if Chamath Palihapitiva's middle name is "Adolf"?

Michael Sobolik ~ Owner of the @warriors🏀 says he doesn’t care about the Uyghurs.

The conversation goes downhill from there.

@chamath ...

- questions whether a genocide is actually happening
- says the CCP isn’t a dictatorship
- says the US is no better than the CCP

It’s important to point out that Palihapitiya is part-owner of the Golden State Warriors and not sole owner of the team.

That said, as appalling as the NBA’s silence on the Uyghur genocide has been, it’s arguably even more revolting to hear an NBA-affiliated bigwig come right out and explicitly say that he doesn’t give a crap about genocide.

For what it’s worth, Enes Kanter Freedom is the one person in the NBA who’s not afraid to acknowledge the Uyghur genocide — and he’s not afraid to call out Palihapitiya for treating a genuine human rights disaster so callously:

Enes Kanter FREEDOM ~ When @NBA says we stand for justice, don’t forget there are those who sell their soul for money & business like @chamath, the owner of @warriors, who says “Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs.”

When genocides happen, it is people like this that let it happen.

Shame!

If the NBA were actually deserving of the respect they demand, they’d stop indulging genocide apologists like Chamath Palihapitiya and start taking all their cues from Enes Kanter Freedom. When the history on the Uyghur genocide is written, it’s Kanter Freedom who will be standing on the right side.

Chamath Palihapitiya will be in the dustbin.

Chuck Ross ~ Chamath was a founder of Zuckerberg's pro-immigration group FWDus. His family also emigrated to Canada to escape civil war in Sri Lanka. Talk about pulling up the ladder behind you!

Warriors issue really vague statement about part-owner who said no one cares about genocide in China

As Twitchy reported earlier, billionaire venture capitalist and part-owner of the Golden State Warriors Chamath Palihapitiya did an interview in which he said that no one cares about the Uyghurs and that the United States is no better than China.

The NBA’s been pretty silent on human rights abuses in China, and the Warriors PR department put out a statement today that distanced them from Palihapitiya’s comments without necessarily standing up against China, either.

A lot of people in the replies sincerely don’t know what the statement is about. What views?

Happy Warrior ~ Clean up on Aisle 9, please.

CB ~ Warriors trying to carefully balance distancing themselves from an owners statements while also not explicitly stating what they are in disagreement over.

A direct statement about the topic in question might incur a reaction from the CCP.

Smokee Dokee ~ Well it seems like he speaks on behalf of your franchise considering neither you or the NBA have spoken out against anything. No in fact, most of you just grovel and kiss up to the CCP regularly. Just stop already. He said what you were all thinking.

Joseph A. Wulfsohn ~ Reading solely this Warriors statement without having heard Chamath Palihapitiya's comments, you would have no idea it was about the imprisoned Uyghurs in China.

Tired Tweeter ~ Cool. So what's the organization's stance on Uyghur human rights?

JC Barraza ~ Hey Warrior PR team - what exactly did Chamath Palihapitiya say? Your press release was a little vague. Thank you.

Steve W ~ Then what are your views? Don’t just tell us he doesn’t speak for the organization. Tell us what the organization’s position is. Let’s hear it.
