Well, we made it to my wife's and my home town in Northern Michigan, where we've rented a cabin for three days on one of the lakes near town. The kids had a great time at the Summer Youth Program week at my alma mater and are talking about coming back next summer, and our granddaughter has already spoken with the professor who heads the clinical pre-med program with the idea that she might go to school there in a couple of years. Even though she lives in Texas, I can get her in-state tuition under the legacy program since I'm a graduate.

We will be starting back on Friday and plan about a five-night/six-day return trip across the country following basically US-2 to I-90 and then down to I-70 and finally I-40. We should be home on Wednesday, August 4th. So far we've covered over 4,100 miles.

A few changes. It appears that my wife's sister is blowing us off and instead going to be out-of-town the weekend that we were going to spend with her (we haven't seen her since before the pandemic). So we may start back a couple days sooner than originally planned.

Anyway, so far the trip has been great. The only time it has rained was when we were at our son's house in Katy, TX, and then only for a couple of minutes.

Anyway, we had a 'Texas barbecue' at our son's house was great, steaks, burgers, sausage, chicken and even some salmon. He also smoked a head of cauliflower which turned out great. We all got to dip in his pool to cool off.

Currently we're in Searcy, Arkansas for the night. We drive to Madison, Wisconsin tomorrow.
