I agree. No one should be able to take government workers' lives hostage like this.

So many new laws and constitutional amendments needed now we know what an autocrat will do.

Another thing that's needed is non-partisan oversight in the event of one party government as the existing system has failed horribly.

This is where the House of Lords, the Privy Council and the Monarch operate in the UK system.

we need to make a law forbidding government shutdowns.

they have made laws forbidding strikes from certain jobs, do the same for government.
