Live ticker: Could losses from the shutdown pay for Trump's border wall?
When President Trump refused to sign a funding bill, setting the country on the path to a partial government shutdown, he said he did so because the bill didn’t include the $5.6 billion he’d requested for a wall along the southern border. Four weeks later, the damage to the economy is almost equal to that figure.

As of today, the shutdown has cost the U.S. economy an estimated $4.74 billion. That's 84.6 percent of the cost of Trump's border wall. Follow NBC News' live ticker to get a real-time estimate on the damage the longest shutdown in U.S. history is causing to the economy.
