Note that yesterday and today we're on the 'Big Island' of Hawaii and today is the first day of decent weather. It appears that the final dregs of tropical storm Olivia have passed over the islands.

Here's how it looked earlier today on the Kono Coast of the 'Big Island', your sort of quintessential image of what you expect Hawaii to look like:

Here's a shot of our cruise ship, NCL's 'Pride of America', anchored off of Kono. There are no shore facilities to handle a ship of this size and so we had to use tenders to to get to and from the ship to the dock:

We boarded our cruise ship yesterday afternoon and left Honolulu at about 7:00pm. It's now morning the sun has come up and we're about to dock in Maui where we'll there until tomorrow evening when we leave for the Big Island. We have excursions booked, one each day. Today we visit a Pineapple plantation. Tomorrow it's a general tour of the island.

This past Thursday we did an island tour of Oahu and while the weather was still shaky we didn't get too wet and were able to see a lot of the island. Friday we visited Pearl Harbor and that evening we were guests of my friend and his wife for dinner at the Waikiki Yacht Club as well as it being a great place to watch the regular Friday night fireworks display over Waikiki Beach.

I'll keep you all posted as we go on. I'm connected to the internet using my iPhone as a hotspot because cruise line charges $25/day/person for internet onboard the ship, but when we're close to an island we get pretty good cell-phone service.
