First lady Melania Trump arrived in Texas on Thursday in an unannounced visit to the border area amid the administration's crisis over the separation of families.
She will take part in "briefings and tours at a nonprofit social services center for children who have entered the United States illegally and a customs and border patrol processing center," said a statement from her office, adding the first lady wanted to "hear more on how the administration can build upon the already existing efforts to reunite children with their families."
Trump's first stop in Texas is the Upbring New Hope Children's Center, part of Lutheran Social Services of the South, also in McAllen, Texas, a department of health and human services-overseen facility housing 60 children, ranging in age from 5 to 17 years old.
According to an administration official, of those 60, about six are children who have been recently separated from their parents.
