But that doesn't mean you have to have Trump's immigration policy. Just that in considering immigration policy, the interests of existing Americans have priority over non-Americans.

So I agree with Steyn. But I don't disagree that the DACA folks should be welcomed to stay.

One thing is a principle. The other a policy.

Here's where I think you and Steyn probably don't see eye to eye. The American tradition is to see immigrants as contributors. An asset to the country.

I think Steyn holds an English sort of view, which is the tradition of seeing refugees as the beneficiaries - being given the opportunity of coming to a different kind of country. England has been taking in refugees since before the US was settled, so it's a long-established perspective.

It was the tone of the article which annoyed me. So self-righteous.

Parts of the problem identified by Trump supporters emerges from the conceits of liberallism. It is absolutely reasonable for citizens to raise their own interests above those of illegal immigrants. Even when we don't admire the citizens and do value the non-citizens.

Not when it comes to innocent children, brought here by their parents. As shown in the recent poll.
