the european war problem has been grossly mischaracterised. it has always been about the german and french ambition to turn europe into a continent-wide empire. it is playing out through a new medium. but the ambition is the same as it ever was.
let europeans trade. don't make them unite. i am afraid that americans don't understand the problem and side with their own convenience. the eu was not responsible for post-war peace. nato was. the eu risks peace in our time.
