although it could easily be the result of putin's brutal genocide in aleppo.
it's a terrifying possibility that putin's brutality may have led towards the end of the syrian civil war. it's not a thing one wishes to be true.
but in this choice of future, assad survives as president and, with putin's help, crushes any sort of opposition. stability returns, at least.
maybe there's no other future in syria which isn't a civil war. freedom and the rule of law doesn't look like a stable possibility. the other alternative in that benighted region is strict islam, and that doesn't end well either. been there, done that in egypt.
