Actually, NAFTA also makes it less appealing to move from Mexico to the US. Investments made there reduce the influx of migrants.

One reason many jobs in the rust belt disappeared was robotics.

And software has also decimated jobs in many industries.

There is a problem which all humans face. In the Adam Smith economy, many repetitive tasks are done better by machines.

Maybe we will all end up writing poetry and taking dogs for walks.

Mexican Immigrants Flee U.S. for Canada

Tens of thousands of Mexicans are heading north from the United States into Canada. How long will they stay there? Nobody knows.

TIJUANA, Mexico—"This move will make it easier for our Mexican friends to visit Canada, while growing our local economies and strengthening our communities," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last June when the Canadian government announced it would be lifting visa requirements that had been in place for Mexican citizens since 2009.

Mexico, in turn, agreed to lift the bans on Canadian beef imports, which were put in place in 2003 amid concerns about mad cow disease.
