The EU really needs to think about the importance of the UK to the common defence of Europe.
Some buffoons in the European Commission want to define terms between the UK and EU so as to ruin the UK. That is, the same UK which helped stop imperial progress in Europe on two occasions in the twentieth century and at least once in the nineteenth.
Europe needs a prosperous UK as a bulwark in the common need for defence of all European nations.
Are there some folks with bigger ideas in the EU? Who see the threat from Russia and Radical Islam and wish for the UK's goodwill? Who see the US president and realise that he is doing Putin's bidding?
People in Britain actually like Europe. Happy to trade with other Europeans, take vacations in Europe, work there, receive a certain amount of immigration. It's just that a majority of Britons don't want to be locked into a federal framework or a massive bureaucracy or a foreign legal structure. The EU is not Europe. It's a political architecture with a particular purpose.
I hope the EU doesn't get in the way of a friendly, functional NATO. And if the US leaves NATO, then I hope the EU wants Britain to remain within the scope of a European defence architecture.
One thing Trump is right about. European countries must share more of the military burden.
