Reports say Trump didn't know about his meeting with the Russian ambassador.

While having contacts with ambassadors is fine, hiding & lying about the meetings makes it look nefarious.
And there were 26 or 29 other politicians/senators meeting other ambassadors, they were asked if they met with the Russian ambassador, 20 responded, they all said NO.

Another context. He concealed the ambassador meetings in a way that helped him become AG. So he had a motive.

He knew very well that Russian connections were a major issue. So even if he thought he was being asked about his role with the campaign he ought to have made sure to mention non-campaign-related meetings.

The omission smells dishonest. It served his purpose.
