Russian objections make Sessions sound like one of theirs.

"The intense attention being given to the new U.S. attorney general's meetings with Russia's ambassador could obstruct improved Washington-Moscow relations, the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday."

Another context. He concealed the ambassador meetings in a way that helped him become AG. So he had a motive.

He knew very well that Russian connections were a major issue. So even if he thought he was being asked about his role with the campaign he ought to have made sure to mention non-campaign-related meetings.

The omission smells dishonest. It served his purpose.
