He's still on active duty, would've been harder for him to turn down.
Word has it he told Trump what he needed in order to take the job, his own staff, etc.

He is admired by both parties & far better than John Bolton! ;))

lets see how this unfolds, Trump certainly LOVES generals, anyone in a uniform turns his head....

Okay. But it is much easier to criticise in the rear view mirror when you aren't trying to balance mixed loyalties, incentives and risks. He accepted the job. So he has already limited his ability to manouever.

The entire Republican Party is scared to oppose Trump. I suspect the NSA will also find it difficult even if he wished to do something contrary to Trump's wish.
