I am working on trying to understand him. I find I can end up getting overly entangled in outrage. And this makes me easy to manipulate.
The theory that Trump is a villainous genius with an idea about a new America is one idea. For myself, I suspect he is a useful idiot being moved around the board by people with a more complex agenda. But given his capricious nature, he may wake up one day and replace those players with another set because his vanity demands it.
He wants adulation. He may find it easier to get it along another road. This is likely something the Republican establishment fears. So they are probably happy to see the sharp responses the Dems are offering.
I feel a little bit of pity for his sensitivity and, in spite of the terrible methodology, sympathy for his wish to protect his family.
