Trump Replaces Acting ICE Head
In the second of two such orders on Monday night, President Donald Trump announced the replacement of Daniel Ragsdale, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The announcement closely follows the replacement of Sally Yates as acting attorney general, just hours after she defied Trump’s refugee ban. Ragsdale, who was tasked with running ICE from Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration until Trump’s own appointee took office, will be replaced by Thomas Homan, an ICE agent famous for his deportation record.
A press release on Homan's appointment did not mention Ragsdale, unlike the administration’s announcement of Yates’s removal, which called her “weak” and said she had “betrayed” her department. Ragsdale has not been fired and will remain with the department as a deputy director, the Department of Homeland Security told the Washington Post’s Mark Berman.
