Well, at least one country lucked out when Trump became president. The United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland.

It kinda feels like most of Trump emerges from his relationship with his father. But his British position clearly comes from his mother. She was a Scot who revered the Queen. Maybe Her Majesty and Mrs May can turn him a little more sensible.

But what a great piece of fortune for the UK. Treated as old bubblegum by the EU post-Brexit, the boot is now on the other foot. If it moves fast, Britain will get a sweet deal from the EU on exit because it has choices. Let's set the banquet table in Buckingham palace, squeeze Trump into a waistcoat and tails, feed him too much sherry trifle and sit him down with a bejewelled Queen Elizabeth II. There's someone he won't dare cross, because his mother (nee McLeod) will not allow it - in her grave but still in control of one thing. Donald! Sign the Treaty with the Queen right now!

The torch of freedom returns whence it came. To its sceptred home. To Runnymede and the hearts of the yeomanry of England.
