Mark Carney faced demands to apologise today after he finally admitted that Brexit is not the biggest risk to the UK economy.
The Bank of England governor caused fury in the run-up to the historic EU referendum last year with a series of bloodcurdling warnings about the consequences of a leave vote.
One of the most controversial was his statement that a Brexit outcome was the most significant risk to the country's financial stability.
But in an humiliating about-turn today, Mr Carney told the Commons Treasury Committee that was no longer his view - and in fact the risk is greater for the rest of the EU.
