THEIR Health Care Savings Accounts, Not Yours, The Biggest Republican Scam Ever
There has never been a more dropkick political scam than Paul Ryan's
proposal for some kind of system of health care saving accounts, as a
replacement for the so-called Affordable Care Act (ACA).
While still deliberately vague, like most of the Republican agenda it
is just an appeal to single-minded selfishness. It will be YOUR
personal health care savings account, Ryan entices, YOUR money.
Except that when you get sick, not if, when . . . without meaningful
price controls the corporate healthcare industry will take every
dollar you've got in that account, leave you destitute . . . and then
you will die.
So any money you put into such an account would not be your money at
all from the moment you deposit it. It would be THEIR savings account
money. You would just be holding it for them, saving it FOR them,
until they finally take it all in the end.
When the Republicans proposed privatization of Social Security to
turn retirement benefits into a casino game, at least there was a
chance that you could beat the Wall Street sharpies administering
your "personal" account. They would get their cut, but there might be
something left over.
Not so here. The corporate healthcare robbers will pick your bones
clean.
That essentially is the Republican vision for health care "reform."
It is the opposite of a solution. Most fundamentally it does not
confront the actual problem any more than the ACA itself, which is
corporate control of our health care costs.
Republicans love to talk about the "free market." But for you
individually to get a good deal in that so-called free market you
need to have bargaining power. And that's the last thing you would
have in a Republican world, when they tell you, all alone, with
nobody to stand with you or look out for you, "Pay up or die." Good
luck with your part of the deal then.
