Let me get this right.
Israel is angry because it wants to keep settling the West Bank and in doing so acts in a way that the US strongly disagrees with; and then feels entitled to US protection to keep doing so in the UN security council?
Isn't this the same Israel which deliberately humiliated the US Veep by unveiling its latest plan for settling the West Bank just prior to his visit in 2010?
And the same Israel whose leader sought to undermine the current US President's authority by involving the President-Elect in the decision of whether to veto the anti-settlement motion, or not?
I wonder why Netanyahu is surprised. Isn't it obvious that the status quo doesn't fix the problem? Isn't it obvious that the US would feel angered by Israel's presumption of protection while being goaded? That Israel's actions towards the Palestinians wouldn't be feasible without US protection? That he miscalculated?
