I am not unsympathetic to the plight of women that are confronted with an unwanted pregnancy. I am very aware many men are only interested in satisfying their own sexual desires. Women deal with the consequences.

In my lifetime I have seen a continuous campaign to encourage sexual freedom. Sex has become recreation. Those that choose another path are mocked as prudes and dismissed. I think there is value in encouraging people to wait for marriage, I know many, probably most, will not but it tends to at least slow things down a bit and causes more thought to take place.

Without getting into specifics, I am not opposed to some forms of birth control, I actually am opposed to some forms of birth control as well. We have three children which is exactly as we wished, so we happily managed to work things out. We even managed that without any formal sex education provided to us in school.

If abortion was illegal there certainly would be more back alley abortions. There could be more deaths of women. There certainly are women that have become pregnant as a result of rape. Those are difficult issues.

Since Roe v Wade there have been over 50 million abortions. I have no idea how many were a result of rape. I expect it is a very small number. I am also sure some back alley deaths of mothers have been avoided. I have no idea how many. We do know we have 50 million innocent lives that were terminated on the other side of the scale.

"If the choice to end a pregnancy is unavailable I think there would be far fewer abortions. I think it would be better emotionally for the women involved not to have to make the choice."

If I may.
If you mean 'choice' as in legal abortions, probably fewer abortions, but there would probably be more deaths of the mother.

There would be back ally abortions or self abortions.
If a woman feels trapped & unable to carry the fetus to term she will seek help.

Consider, the woman is raped, maybe by a stranger, or a family member. That would screw her up emotionally for a long time. Forcing her to carry under those circumstance is cruel & inhumane. Unless its her choice.

You know what I never understand, for those who abhor abortion & think it should be illegal, WHY do many of them oppose birth control? and sex education to teach teens how to avoid unwanted pregnancies?
Many believe in abstinence only.... NUTS!
