It may be unlikely, but I think the mood on the West Coast is stronger than you imagine.

Many folks are sick of the nasty arguments and wild swings back and forth back East. A large majority have beliefs in common and they aren't in tune with Dubya's, let alone Trump's. Mutterings of wanting revolutionary change amongst younger people. The contiguous blue geography is easy to see.

I agree that there's a strong loyalty to the USA. But the elastic has been pulled to the end of its strength. Folks will only tolerate so much.

The West Coast is quite a different country. This is now more stark than it ever was. Trump had no traction on the West Coast. Indeed, he is broadly seen as utterly repellant. The idea that you can spin on your heal and call this guy "my President" appears to many as putting the value of loyalty above basic human decency.

If loyalty fails, so do the ties it requires.

Many said Brexit was inconceivable. And yet the UK brexited.
